Boris Soliz Creative Director / User Interface Designer
Hello!
I'm Boris Soliz and I'm a Web and User Interface Designer working in Berkeley, CA as the Creative Director of Redux.com. This an online portfolio of my digital creative work. I have been working as a professional designer and web developer, both full-time and freelance for the last 15 years. In this time, I have worked on many sites for clients ranging from large corporations to small organizations. Another passion I have is photography!
Company - Redux
I lead the creative design for Redux user interfaces across the web, mobile, TV, and partner products. I’m responsible for taking a product idea, conceptualizing it through the use of wireframes, visually designing it, and then honing that design based on user feedback and analytics collected after the product's implementation.
Below are a few projects that I’ve worked on at Redux. In a few of the projects, I’ve included early designs to show our thought-process as we developed the product.
Redux TV Mode TVmode is designed to provide a passive, lean-back experience for consuming video content on Redux. I designed TVmode to let users easily perform a few key actions: skip to the next video, give props to an item, and select another channel. Comments on the item and the user who curated the item fade in/out over the surface of the video as the user is watching.
Yahoo Connected TV
The goal of this project was to extend Redux’s TV mode Yahoo Connected TV. The designs show some of our thinking around extending the passive experience to TVs.
Boxee Passive mode experience
Similar to the Yahoo Connected TV project, the goal of the Boxee partnership is to extend Redux directly to the living room TV. We started with a design featuring a grid of thumbnails that would start the passive experience when “clicked”, but ultimately rejected that design in favor of a much simpler design which launches a user directly into the experience, as shown by the last two thumbnails. Users can browse popular channels, and if they have logged in, channels they have subscribed to and their “home stream” are accessible. In addition, we included the number of new videos in the channels since a user last visited the app, to help a user identify which of his or her favorite channels are fresh.
Stream
The Redux stream is the core of the product. It provides an active, lean-forward environment for users to curate and interact around content in real-time. The stream has gone through many iterations. I’ve included early designs of the stream as well as the most recent designs.
ChanSurf
ChanSurf was an early experiment in a passive video experience before TVmode was implemented on Redux. The goal of chansurf was to passively watch videos from your friends or in a specific topic. We built a prototype, and were so happy with it that we decided to build TVmode on Redux.
Roam.ly Roam.ly is an early experiment with check-ins to short-form video content. A prototype is being built in our spare time. Similar to chansurf, if we like the results with the prototype, we may extend the check-in concept to the Redux product.
Project - Video Tutorial
I lead the planning and creation of the Redux video tutorial. The goal was to create a video to display during the registration process that would communicate the value of using Redux. I filmed the tutorial and edited it to create the final version here.
